Brussels Airlines’ President, Bernard Gustin, has said the airline will retire its fleet of Avro RJ85 and RJ100 aircraft by the end of 2017.

The carrier, which has its roots in SABENA, DAT and SN Brussels Airlines, has operated the RJ and its predecessor, the British Aerospace 146, for many years.

With the fleet retired Brussels Airlines will focus on replacing them with a mix of Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft.

At present the airline also wet-leases Dash 8 Q400s from Flybe and an Embraer 145 from bmi Regional to supplement its regional flights from Brussels.
