LATAM to become one airline brand

LATAM Airlines Group – the combined company that runs TAM Brasil and the various LAN airlines is to merge under one brand from 2016, it has been announced.

In a statement today, the company said:

LATAM Airlines Group has decided to take another step forward to unify our brands under one name: “LATAM”.

With the new brand, we will continue the legacy of leadership that started decades ago with LAN, TAM and their respective affiliate carriers. Both brands contributed for many years to the growth and development of the region, and today more than ever, we are committed to the future of Latin America and connecting it to the world. The new brand allows us to offer a better, consistent service throughout our network, which in turn strengthens our position in the region.

“LATAM” will bring together all the passenger and cargo airline operations of the LATAM Airlines Group carriers: LAN Airlines and its affiliates in Peru, Argentina, Colombia and Ecuador; in addition to TAM Linhas Aéreas S.A., and its subsidiary TAM Air Transport Mercosur S.A. (TAM Airlines (Paraguay), and the cargo carriers comprised of LAN CARGO, LAN CARGO Colombia, ABSA (TAM Cargo) and Mas Air. The new brand will not impact the registered names of any of the above mentioned companies.”

The first aircraft in the new livery will appear in the first half of 2016. In the meantime, the logo here is the first sign of the new branding.


American Airlines Boeing 787 Routes

American Airlines is the latest US airline to take delivery of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. It has now announced the initial routes which the type will operate on.

Like most airlines, American will operate its 787s initially on domestic sectors to gain crew familiarity on the type before it embarks on long haul flying. The aircraft will be based at Dallas Ft Worth Airport and fly on the following routes:

  • Dallas Ft Worth – Chicago O’Hare – Starts 7th May
  • Dallas Ft Worth – Beijing Capital – Starts 2nd June
  • Dallas Ft Worth – Buenos Aires – Starts 4th June

Customers can start booking 787 flights beginning 14th February. American will deploy the 787 to additional markets in 2015 as it takes delivery of new aircraft.

American has placed firm orders for 42 Boeing 787 aircraft, with the right to acquire an additional 58.

Aerolineas Argentinas taking A340-500s

Aerolineas A340 (c) Aldo BidiniAerolineas Argentinas will take delivery of former Singapore Airlines Airbus A340-500 9V-SGA soon.

The aircraft was recently part of the fleet operating the world’s longest scheduled flights, from Singapore to both New York Newark, and Los Angeles International. Singapore Airlines is retiring the fleet and the routes, however.

Aerolineas is adding the type to replace its older A340-200s, and to operate alongside the -300s it operates. It will eventually fly a number of -500 models.


Welcome to South America – LAN’s 787 arrives

Lan 787LAN Airlines has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner, CC-BBA, becoming the first airline in the Americas to do so. It is also only the fourth airline in the world to take delivery of the type.

The aircraft arrived at Santiago de Chile by performing a low pass, before landing and taxiing under a water cannon salute.

LAN will fly the 787 Dreamliner from its Santiago base to Buenos Aires and Lima initially. These routes start in October.

Then, as more aircraft are delivered, they will be seen on routes to Los Angeles, Frankfurt, and Madrid.

LAN Airlines’ CEO, Ignacio Cueto, stressed the importance of the delivery for the Company and celebrated the benefits this aircraft will have both for the regional aviation industry and the travel experience of passengers:

“LAN is proud to be the first airline in the Americas to receive the 787 Dreamliner,” said Ignacio Cueto, CEO LAN Airlines.   “This is not only a milestone for LAN, but also for all of our passengers that will experience an enhanced LAN in-flight experience thanks to the cutting edge technology and visionary elements of this new aircraft. The Dreamliner will make it possible for us to cover greater distances in a more environmentally conscious and highly efficient  aircraft which will help ensure our sustainable growth“.

The cabin configuration aboard LAN’s first 787-8 will be 217 seats in Economy and 30 seats in Premium Business.
