A sophisticated new hotel has appeared alongside Sydney Airport which combines effortless cool with some fantastic views of aircraft action.

The Citadines Connect Hotel, (formerly the Felix Hotel) which opened on 1 February 2018, is situated just east of the airport, behind the Domestic Terminal and the commuter and biz jet areas.

It has 150 rooms, and welcomes guests to reception in the Penthouse on the top floor, where hanging chairs by the windows give panoramic views over the airport and runways.

Guests can enjoy self-check-in kiosks, a cocktail bar, and 24-hour food shop with a range of locally sourced gourmet grab-and-go food and drink options that guests can charge to their room with a swipe of the key. The cocktail bar serves up classic cocktails and premium local and international beer, wine and spirits. There is also a 24-hour gym, Felix Athletic Club, and self-service laundry.

Out on the terrace you’ll find Sydney’s only rooftop cinema… but maybe you’ll just want to watch the aircraft.

The Rooms and Views

Described as cabins (the hotel features a ‘Catch Me If You Can’ travel theme throughout, harking back to travel in the early 20th century), rooms are classified as Economy (from $174), Premium Economy (from $306), Business (from $324) or First Class (from $354).

Each has a 55″ TV, large beds, superfast Wi-Fi, rain showers.

Of the rooms available, the hotel tells me:

52 rooms face the city skyline
70 rooms face the airport
28 rooms face the east

With binoculars you will be able to see most movements across the airport’s three runways and associated taxiways. The International Terminal and parts of the Domestic Terminal will be out of sight, but there are some views over the maintenance areas.

Photography will be possible with a good lens of the nearer aircraft traffic.

A Bit More About the Citadines

In a game changing partnership with private jet provider Fly Airly, Citadines Hotel has developed high flying accommodation packages. The Jet Setter package has been designed for interstate or international companies that want to fly their teams by private jet for a conference at Felix Hotel. For leisure guests who want a taste of the high life, the Sky’s the Limit packages incorporates a two-hour scenic flight over Sydney on board a lavish private jet.

Citadines Connect Hotel was designed and developed and is operated by 8Hotels, the boutique hotel group that are always ahead of the game in terms of meeting modern consumer needs, having previously launched 1888 – the first Instagram Hotel and The Ultimo – the first Astrology Hotel.

The hotel is located just a 7-minute walk, or 2-minute drive, from the Sydney Domestic Airport and a short drive from the International terminal.

The hotel’s details are:

121 Baxter Road, Mascot, 2020 NSW, Australia

I believe there are airport views among all ‘classes’ of rooms, but I’d welcome anyone who could write a trip report from the hotel to send it in!
