Delta is celebrating today after launching passenger operations aboard its brand new Airbus A220-100 aircraft.

Flight DL744 departed New York LaGuardia’s this morning bound for Boston. Inside Terminal C were hundreds of well wishers, customers, airline staff and enthusiasts who had gathered to witness the event. The aircraft operating the first flight was N102DU.

Later, across the country at Dallas Ft. Worth, TX, another of Delta’s A220s was preparing for its first passenger flight.

Delta’s A220, which takes advantage of advanced technology and composite materials designed to deliver considerable improvements in fuel efficiency, is the latest investment in a fleet modernization program that aims to replace 20 percent of older, less-efficient aircraft by 2020.

“We have big plans for this aircraft,” said Chuck Imhof, Vice President — New York and Sales, East. “It will be an integral part of our future domestic fleet and will deliver an experience our customers will look forward to every time they fly.”

To find out more about Delta’s A220, the airline has produced a “Best in Class” miniseries with three videos that are worth watching.
