Enjoy Aircraft With the Kids This Summer at Manchester Runway Viewing Park

by Matt Falcus

If you’re stuck with the kids this summer holiday and desperate for permission to go and watch some planes, Manchester Airport might have the answer for you.

The Runway Visitor Park, where the airport has a number of historic aircraft on display, as well as an aviation hobby shop, cafe and fantastic views across the runways and airport, is hosting ‘Sundays are Fun Days’ for families this summer.

The events will run every Sunday from 29th July to 2nd September at the park, with free children’s rides, bouncy castles, and trampolines (weather permitting). Whilst the kids are jumping around, parents can relax in the Concorde Restaurant, spend some time on the viewing platforms watching the take offs and landings of the airport’s hundreds of daily flights, or explore the aircraft on one of the park’s many tours.

They will also have the following on offer:

Flight Academy

Back by popular demand, the park’s Flight Academy for ages 3-13 will be running throughout August. The academy gives kids the chance to climb onboard a real aircraft and sit in the cockpit as they learn more about aviation and flying a plane. They’ll also get the chance to try their hand at being a pilot, cabin crew or air traffic controller in a role play session exploring the many careers at the airport.

Midweek Madness

The fun doesn’t stop there, with even more dates to get in the diary this August as the park hosts a special Midweek Madness on 1st August. The event will include the popular Concorde Short Tour for just £5pp, and all day parking for just £2.

Bank Holiday Bonanza

On the 27th August, the park will be holding a fun filled Bank Holiday Bonanza for the whole family to enjoy. Tickets will include a summer BBQ, a world famous Concorde tour, and all day parking for £15pp.

80th Birthday Archive Exhibition

The Manchester Airport Archives have been opened to the public for a special exhibition at the Runway Visitor Park. Visitors will be able to delve into the airport’s 80 year history, as they explore parachutes, visitor books, model aircraft, and much more.

Manchester Airport 80th Birthday Giveaways

In celebration of Manchester Airports’ 80th birthday, the RVP is having a summer of birthday giveaways and offers for repeat customers. Each week visitors can pick up a birthday voucher to redeem gifts or offers on their next visit, including free ice cream, reduced parking offers and kids eat free days.

The park is open from 8am-8pm in July and August. Tours, academies and events can be booked online: http://book.manchesterairport.co.uk/manweb.nsf/content/runwayvisitorpark
