When airberlin failed, it brought down subsidiary Niki, the Austrian low-cost and leisure airline associated with Niki Lauda.

Initially it was anticipated that IAG would purchase the assets of Niki and use it to expand Vueling’s coverage in Austria. However, it later emerged that Niki Lauda would buy back the failed airline and create a new carrier out of his Laudamotion brand, which to date has been operating executive jet charters.

Now, after a rapid launch period, it has been announced that the new holiday airline will commence flights on 25th March.

It will use the airline code “OE”

Making use of summer demand, it is thought that holiday companies like Thomas Cook will buy seats on Laudamotion’s routes, helping the carrier to establish itself over its launch period.

What Aircraft Will Laudamotion Use?

It is planned that a fleet of 14 Airbus A320 aircraft will be used by Laudamotion.

The first to enter the fleet is OE-LOF (cn 4329).

Other aircraft will be sourced from Eurowings, and are likely to be from the former airberlin fleet.

Where Will Laudamotion Fly?

Initially the airline will operate flights out of Germany.

From April, Laudamotion will begin flights from Switzerland, followed by Austria in June.

Destinations will focus on holiday resorts in Greece, Cyprus, Italy and Spain.
