Moscow Domodedovo Stored Aircraft List

Undoubtedly the highlight of most peoples’ spotting trips to Moscow or Russia are the large numbers of stored and rare Russian aircraft to be found. However, getting regular and accurate logs of what can be seen is often quite difficult.

Stored F-27s at Cologne to Go

You may be aware that there are a number of stored Fokker F-27 aircraft at Cologne/Bonn airport, owned by WDL Aviation. These have been present a number of years, stored at the far side of the cargo terminal area and only just visible from the terminal viewing deck.

It has recently been announced that these aircraft are to move on. Although mostly they will not be scrapped, they will be scattered all over Europe. So if you need them, now is the time to head over to Cologne to catch them!

The aircraft are:
D-ADOP
D-AELC
D-AELD
D-AELE
D-AELF
D-AELH
D-AELI
D-BAKC
D-BCEA (FH227)

One aircraft will remain at Cologne/Bonn. The rest will be used as training aircraft and for display purposes around Europe, including one at a furniture store in Sweden.

A timescale has not been announced, but expect it to be very soon.

Chateauroux Spotting, France

Chateuroux is a small airport in France, an hour or so south of Paris. It has very little flight activity, with just a regional link to the capital of note.

However, the airport has become synonymous with airliner storage and nearly always has a few widebodies put out to pasture, ready for scrapping or eventual return to service.

The reason I mention Chateauroux now is that I just saw a log of what is currently stored there and was quite surprised! The log includes:

VP-BIB 747-200F Air Bridge Cargo

I-OCEU 747-200F Ocean Airlines

EC-JFR 747-200 Air Pullmantur

SX-FIN 747-200 Sky Express

F-GTOM 747SP Corsair

F-BTDE DC-10-30 AOM/Cubana

A nice bunch if you need them! Most aircraft can be seen quite easily by driving around the airfield and terminal area. Some photographs are possible.

MK Airlines Fleet to Filton

Since MK Airlines has just gone bust, it seems the vast majority of the fleet will be put into storage at Filton airfield, in Bristol.

There were already a number of their aircraft parked here, and some are reportedly stored in Ostend, Belgium.

The airline operated a fleet of Boeing 747 classics and DC-8′s.

This is a great opportunity to go get these classics before they move on!

Spotting at Atlantic City

Those of you venturing to the US East Coast’s version of Vegas may be interested to know of a few opportunities to spot the action at Atlantic City’s airport.

As you’d expect with a leisure venue, the list of carriers mainly includes low-cost and charter airlines, as well as a healthy selection of smaller airliners from private airlines.

The best location to watch the action is on the top floor of the new car park opposite the terminal. From here you can see across the entire airfield, and even to the military base on the far side.

Stored airliners at Atlantic City include an ex-Delta L1011, ex-united Boeing 747SP, and ex-Air Canada Boeing 737. These can also be seen from the parking garage.

Perpignan Spotting

Andy ‘Smudger’ Smith has also given a bit of information about Perpignan – a small regional airport in France just inside the border with Spain.

Perpignan is known for having a small collection of stored airliners parked very close to the road. Some are destined to be sent to new operators, whilst some have languished for many years here.

Despite being parked near the main A9 motorway, you have to come off at the exit signposted for the airport a few miles away to actually get close to them for reading off and photographing. Currently the following are stored:

Flybe, Ryanair and Air France are amongst the airlines flying to Perpignan. It is very quiet for scheduled traffic.

Aloha 737s at Southend

For those in need of any Aloha Boeing 737-700′s, three of them are currently parked up at Southend Airport to the east of London. They are in open storage following the airline ceasing operations.

The three aircraft, N740AL, N741AL and N742AL (possibly to be joined by more) are parked in the south east corner of the airfield, and can be seen from the perimeter road.
