Views from the Ibis Ho Chi Minh City Airport Spotting Hotel

by Matt Falcus

Among the best Ho Chi Minh City Airport spotting hotel is the Ibis, which is located very close to the airport terminal on Hong Ha Street.

Erik Ritterbach visited recently and reports on what it’s like spotting from there, with this selection of pictures from him visit.

He tells us that it is not the closest hotel to the airport, but has a useful rooftop area which is quite high up and has views over the airport buildings to the taxiways and runways beyond.

Sadly the distance means heat haze can be a problem with photographs, but fairly acceptable results are still possible.

You can easily log the registrations with good binoculars or zoom lens.

The hotel itself is of the usual Ibis standard, and rooms on the upper floors facing the airport in the *18-*26 range have views of aircraft landing and departing, similar to the rooftop. Lower floors suffer from obstruction by the airport and neighbouring buildings.

Interesting shots can be taken of aircraft with the city as a backdrop.
