With just six months to go before its 100th anniversary, American Airlines has revealed a new special “Flagship” livery to adorn one of its Boeing 777-300s, a move likely to excite plane spotters and aviation heritage buffs alike.

Highlight Aircraft: N735AT in the Spotlight

Beginning in November 2025, the Boeing 777-300 registered N735AT will wear this special scheme. The airframe will also receive an interior refresh, including the new premium Flagship Suite business-class seats and upgraded Premium Economy and Main Cabin features.

Design Blends Past and Future

The special livery is a visual homage to American’s heritage blended with its modern identity. Key design elements include:

  • A base paint scheme in Silver Eagle®, which is currently the standard silver used across much of American’s mainline and regional fleet.

  • The return of an orange lightning bolt motif, originally seen around 90 years ago on the Douglas DC-3 and other classic types, now revived and wrapped across both sides of the 777.

  • A stylized eagle roundel near the rear of the fuselage, echoing the “eagle connecting the world” motif from earlier American branding.

  • The aircraft will be named “Flagship DFW”, paying homage to American’s Dallas/Fort Worth hub and its historical naming tradition.

The combination is intended to evoke American’s long history while signifying a forward-looking rejuvenation.

Interiors & Onboard Innovation

While the external scheme draws attention, the interior upgrades are also notable for enthusiasts following airline product evolution:

  • The Flagship Suite® business-class seats (already in service on certain 787s) will make their debut on the refreshed 777-300 fleet. These include privacy doors, wireless charging pads, and a chaise-style lounge seat with adjustable headrest.

  • Premium Economy gets new headrest wings, improved calf and footrests, and wireless charging—American is the first U.S. carrier to add wireless charging in Premium Economy.

  • In Main Cabin (economy) on international 777 routes, customers can expect 4K QLED screens (a U.S. first in that class), along with USB-C and AC power outlets.

When fully refreshed, each 777-300 will carry 70 Flagship Suite seats and 44 Premium Economy seats.

Keep an eye out for N735AT making its first revenue service in the new livery, which should be next month.

Routes assigned to the aircraft will be key international services, such as those to Europe.

It will be interesting to see whether American will apply additional special liveries to other aircraft or extend this scheme beyond a single 777 to mark their centennial anniversary. Stay tuned!
