Great news for fans of Soviet aircraft as another Ilyushin Il-62 has returned to the sky ahead of entering service as a freighter.

Former Manas Airways and Orient Avia aircraft RA-86126 (cn 4154535) which has been stored at Kazan Airport in Russia for a few years yesterday flew its first test flight ahead of joining Rada Airlines.

It is expected to take up the registration EW-505TR and will join sistership EW-450TR which at present is one of the only Il-62 aircraft in active service.

The aircraft undertook a 35 minute flight from Kazan on 16 November, still under its previous registration, making a large circuit of the region before landing again after having tested systems.

Hopefully this aircraft will become a regular sight at cargo airports around the world.

Here’s a video of sistership EW-450TR of Rada Airlines.

Never flown on one but have had a look through two of them, many years ago, at Melbourne airport.
Crew happy for me to take external photos, but not of the cockpit for some reason.
Yes, great to see another one back flying.
