Avelo Airlines has placed an order for up to 100 Embraer E2 aircraft is it puts its future fleet in the spotlight.

The low-cost airline, founded in its current guise in 2021, has so far relied on a fleet of secondhand Boeing 737 NG aircraft for its widespread and somewhat experimental route network across the United States and further afield.

Now, the airline will become the first US carrier to fly Embraer’s latest, and largest, passenger aircraft.

Order Details

The aircraft order placed on 10 September 2025 comprises 50 firm orders for the Embraer E195-E2, plus 50 more options.

At list prices, this represents an order worth $4.4 billion, however airlines regularly receive significant discounts for volume orders such as this.

Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy said, “We are thrilled to partner with Embraer and bring this best-in-class small narrowbody airplane to the United States marketplace. Our customers will love the E2’s comfortable 2×2 seating, in-seat power ports, large overhead bins, and quiet cabin. The aircraft’s exceptional performance, size, and efficiency make it the perfect choice for the future growth of our scheduled service network. The airline industry in the United States is evolving, and the E2 fits perfectly with our vision for Avelo’s unique role in that evolution”

Aircraft deliveries are expected to begin in the first half of 2027.

Why the E2?avelo airlines embraer e2 order

In its press release about the order, Avelo Airlines has emphasised the Embraer E2’s abilities to operate out of shorter runways.

It states “E2TS (Embraer Enhanced Takeoff System), Embraer’s first of its kind proprietary technology, is a key capability that will open new markets for Avelo and drive efficiency in many of Avelo’s existing airports. This, along with the aircraft’s range, fuel efficiency, and small noise footprint establish it as the ideal aircraft to expand Avelo’s network.”

Alongside the existing Boeing 737-700 and -800 fleet, Avelo is likely to look to add further regional airports to its route network which the Embraer E2 is perfectly suited for – both in terms of passenger capacity and short-field performance.
