Over the years, Etihad has built a reputation for high-quality service and innovation. The airline played a key role in the “big three” Gulf carriers’ expansion, alongside Emirates and Qatar Airways, focusing on premium experiences and a modern fleet.
Despite financial challenges in the mid-2010s, Etihad has remained a key player in global aviation, restructuring its operations for efficiency and sustainability.

Etihad Airways operates from its main hub at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH).
The airline serves destinations across the Middle East, Europe, Asia, North America, Africa, and Australia. Notable routes include high-profile connections to London, New York, Sydney, Tokyo, and Mumbai, as well as key destinations in Europe such as Paris, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam.
Its extensive codeshare partnerships also expand its reach beyond its directly operated routes.
Etihad Fleet
Etihad operates a modern and diverse fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft, focusing on fuel efficiency and passenger comfort.
At the time of writing, it had 98 aircraft in its fleet, which includes:
- Airbus A320 Family – Used for short-haul and regional routes. Comprising the A320, A320neo, A321 and A321neo
- Airbus A350-1000 – A key part of Etihad’s long-haul operations, known for its efficiency and comfort.
- Boeing 777-300ER – A mainstay of long-haul routes, though being gradually phased out.
- Boeing 787-9 & 787-10 Dreamliner – The backbone of Etihad’s fleet, used on medium and long-haul routes.
- Airbus A380 – Reintroduced on select routes, offering a premium experience including the famous ‘Residence’ suite. Six examples are currently flying.
Etihad has also placed orders for next-generation aircraft like the Boeing 777X, which will further modernize its fleet in the coming years.
Additionally, Etihad also operates a number of Boeing 777 Freighter variants.

- Special Liveries – Etihad is known for unique liveries, including the ‘Greenliner’ Boeing 787 promoting sustainability, and the ‘Formula 1’ themed aircraft celebrating Abu Dhabi’s Grand Prix.
It also has an aircraft promoting Chennai Super Kings cricket, squad. - Airbus A380 Revival – After being temporarily retired, Etihad has brought back the A380, making it a rare sight among carriers still operating the superjumbo.
