New Air Force Once Design Revealed

by Matt Falcus

Confirmation has finally been given over what the new Air Force One aircraft will look like.

President Biden has, as expected, dropped the proposed new livery design touted by President Trump, and retained a scheme much closer to that worn by the existing aircraft.

The new Air Force One aircraft use two Boeing 747-8 airframes and will replace the older, existing examples which were based on a hybrid of the Boeing 747-200B and -400 (known as the VC-25A), and date from 1990.

The two new Air Force One aircraft will wear the familiar blue, yellow and white livery as the existing aircraft, with large United States of America titles down the longer fuselage.

Whilst difficult to see in these renderings, it is understood that the shade of blue is itself slightly darker than the existing aircraft.

Trump Design Scrapped

President Trump proposed an entirely different design altogether, aiming to modernise the livery.

However, this controversial design has been scrapped on the grounds of it requiring extra engineering time, which is undesirable considering the delays already experienced by the project.

When With the Next Air Force One Fly?

Air Force One lands at Hickam Air Force Base (AFB) with US President George W. Bush on board for his first visit to Hawaii while holding office.

Known as ‘Next Air Force One’ the two Boeing 747-800 aircraft will likely be delivered in 2027.

They will be known as the VC-25B variant. It is expected to feature an unmatched interior capable of supporting the president and staff on their travels, as well as acting as a modern aerial command post in times of unrest – a White House in the sky.
