OTT Airlines is the new Chinese Low Cost Carrier

by Matt Falcus

China Eastern Airlines is launching a new low cost carrier to be called OTT Airlines.

The airline will serve the Yangtze River Delta region – a densely population area comprising cities like Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui.

The airline, whose name has been suggested as meaning ‘One Two Three’, or ‘On Time Travel’, is set to be the launch customer for the indigenous Comac C919 airliner. This was originally to be China Eastern, who are now assigning 20 aircraft it has on order to this new subsidiary.

OTT Airlines will also fly 35 Comac ARJ-21-700 regional jets.

The airline is set to launch operations later this year.
