Park Inn Frankfurt Spotting Hotel Review

One of the hotels at Frankfurt Airport which has been reported as good for spotting is the Park Inn by Radisson. I recently checked it out and here’s my review.

The hotel is located close to Terminal 2 on the north side of the airport. It is located on Amelia-Mary-Earhart-Straße in the relatively new Gateway Gardens development of hotels and office buildings. In fact, since I last came to Frankfurt all of this is new.

The hotels has five floors, with a restaurant and bar on the ground floor.

The rooms are fairly basic – this is Radisson’s budget brand. However, they’re more than comfortable, with a large TV, tea/coffee facilities, desk, chairs and plenty of space.

Prices were also very reasonable, in line with other hotels in the area (Holiday Inn, Moxy and Hampton by Hilton are all on the same street).

The Views

Limited views of aircraft at Terminal 2 and the new Terminal 3 site in the distance.

This Gateway Gardens area is to the north east of Terminal 2 and the airport site. Rooms facing south look towards the runways 25L and 25C approaches, and the eastern part of Terminal 2. You’ll need a room on the top two floors to be able to see over the trees, lights and elevated motorway.

With binoculars you can also see the remote parking stands over where Terminal 3 is being built, and if you’re using Flightradar24 you can also see runway 18 departures in the distance.

If you happen to get a room facing north, you have a good view of aircraft approaching runway 25R, and aircraft on downwind as they track to the north of the airfield.

This hotel is too far away for photography, as you can see from the pictures here. And in reality it’s too far to read off registrations. So you’re relying on using flight tracking software and websites to log aircraft. But you can see most movements.

Photography is not possible due to the distance and obstructions.

Not For Long

This picture shows what is about to happen next to the Park Inn at Frankfurt Airport. A new building is being built right over the street (August 2019), and depending on how tall it is, it could completely obliterate the view of aircraft. It seems likely this will happen.

So book your trip soon if you want to take advantage of it.

Getting Around

The hotel provides a shuttle bus to terminal 1 and 2 which runs every half hour. It is free from the airport to the hotel, and 4 Euro from the hotel to the airport.

It’s about a 10 minute walk to Terminal 2, and you can also walk to the motorway bridge spotting location near Zeppelinheim in around 30 minutes.
