In a strategic move announced at the 2025 Dubai Airshow, Air Europa signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for up to 40 Airbus A350-900 wide-body aircraft. The deal marks a significant shift for the Madrid-based carrier and is being described as the backbone of its planned long-haul fleet renewal.

Until now, Air Europa’s long-haul operations have been composed exclusively of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft — making this decision to adopt Airbus wide-bodies especially noteworthy.

The A350-900 brings next-generation wide-body performance, delivering advanced aerodynamics, fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce engines and a cabin experience aimed at higher comfort and longer-range operations. According to Air Europa’s leadership, the aircraft will support the airline’s expansion, particularly on Latin American markets.

While the MoU doesn’t yet specify how many of the 40 aircraft will be firm orders or the exact delivery schedule, the agreement signals a major transformation in Air Europa’s fleet strategy. Managed properly, it has the potential to accelerate the carrier’s growth and reposition it within the competitive long-haul market.

For Airbus, the move brings a new customer into its A350 family and reinforces the platform’s growing appeal among carriers seeking modern wide-body renewal and network expansion.
