Taiwan’s premium carrier STARLUX Airlines has revealed the first aircraft in its upcoming AIR SORAYAMA special livery, a striking design applied to one of its new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft fresh from the paint shop in Toulouse.

Images released by the airline show the jet — which will carry the registration B-58553 when delivered — finished in a distinctive metallic silver theme inspired by the work of Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama. The aircraft represents the first completed example of the collaboration announced earlier in 2026 and is expected to become one of the most eye-catching aircraft in the airline’s growing fleet.

A Unique Art Collaboration

The AIR SORAYAMA aircraft forms part of a collaboration between STARLUX and renowned contemporary artist Hajime Sorayama, famous for his futuristic metallic artwork.

According to the airline, the aircraft’s livery uses high-concentration mica paint and a multi-layer coating process to create a reflective metallic silver finish across the fuselage. The technique allows the design to shimmer in changing light conditions while incorporating Sorayama’s distinctive artistic style.

The project combines contemporary art with aviation design, something that has become increasingly popular among airlines looking to create distinctive brand statements.

A New Flagship for the STARLUX Fleet

The aircraft receiving the special livery is part of STARLUX’s fleet of Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, which serve as the airline’s flagship long-haul type.

STARLUX began taking delivery of the A350-1000 in 2023, deploying the aircraft on major international routes from its hub at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. These aircraft feature the airline’s high-end cabin design with first class suites, business class seating and premium economy.

The type plays a central role in the airline’s long-haul strategy, including services to North America and other key international markets.

A Growing Collection of Special Liveries

STARLUX has developed a reputation for distinctive branding and creative collaborations since launching operations in 2020. The AIR SORAYAMA aircraft continues that approach, blending art and aviation to produce a visually striking aircraft that is likely to attract attention wherever it flies.

With its reflective metallic appearance, B-58553 will stand out among the airline’s elegant champagne-gold standard livery, making it a particularly appealing aircraft for aviation enthusiasts and plane spotters.

One to Watch for Aviation Enthusiasts

The aircraft has now completed painting and finishing work at Airbus’ facilities in Toulouse, and it is expected to enter service once delivered to the airline later this year.

For plane spotters, the silver AIR SORAYAMA A350-1000 will likely become one of the most sought-after aircraft in the STARLUX fleet — combining a brand-new widebody jet with an artistic livery unlike anything currently flying.

As the airline continues to expand its global network, spotting this unique aircraft at major international airports could soon become a highlight for aviation enthusiasts around the world.
