Canadian low-cost carrier Lynx Air is to cease flying this weekend as financial troubles mount.

The airline has filed for creditor protection from the Court of King’s Bench Alberta, with flights operating until midnight on Sunday, 25 February.

The final flight, however, is likely to be the Sunday morning service from Phoenix to Calgary.

The airline says in a statement on its website:

Tremendous work was put into the growth and expansion of Lynx Air over the past two years, offering Canadians a low-cost, seamless travel experience for Canadians. However, the compounding financial pressures associated with inflation, fuel costs, exchange rates, cost of capital, regulatory costs and competitive tension in the Canadian market have ultimately proven too steep a mountain for our organization to overcome. It is with a heavy heart we leave the skies. We hope in our absence that our vision to Inspire More Canadians to Fly leaves its mark on our passengers.

Lynx Air Fleet

At present Lynx Air has a fleet of nine Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, all introduced since early 2022. They are:

  • C-FTHF
  • C-FULH
  • C-FULI
  • C-FULJ
  • C-GJHK
  • C-GJSL
  • C-GLYX
  • C-GULN
  • C-GUUL

All but two of the aircraft are leased, and are likely to be returned to their lessors quickly following the cessation of flying.

The airline is based at Calgary International .
