Which Airlines Fly the Saab 340 in 2024?

With the retirement of the last Loganair Saab 340 aircraft last month (see story), it brings to an end one of the easiest options to fly on the Swedish turboprop for those living in the UK and Europe.

While Loganair’s fleet has mostly been sold on to other operators to continue flying, the number of Saab 340 operators around the world – and the number of active examples – is dwindling.

So if you want to see or fly on a Saab 340 in 2024, here’s a list of the main operators.

 

Asia

Japan Coast Guard
The Japan Maritime Safety Agency operates a fleet of four Saab 340B aircraft in a Search and Rescue role. They are based at Tokyo Haneda airport.

Royal Thai Air Force

The national air force of Thailand has a fleet of seven Saab 340s used in Transport and Airborne Early Warning roles.

 

 

Caribbean

VP-CKI SF34 CAYMAN AIRWAYS EXPRESS

Cayman Airways
Has a small fleet of Saabs to supplement larger aircraft used on its flights out of George Town, Grand Cayman.

 

Central & South America

Aerolineas Sosa
With a single Saab 340 among its fleet, this airline based in La Ceiba, Honduras, to domestic destinations.

LADE Lineas Aereas del Estado
The state-run airline of Argentina. LADE has four Saab 340B aircraft among its unusual fleet, and these can be found on the domestic routes its operates out of its hubs at Comodoro Rivadavia, Buenos Aires and El Calafate.

TAG Transportes Aéreos Guatemaltecos
This regional airline has seven Saab 340s in its fleet, both A and B+ variants, flying out of its main bases at La Aurora International and Mundo Maya International airports.

AirEst
An Estonian airline with a fleet of Saab 340s. All but one are in cargo configuration. This operates on charter and public service flights.

AirGotland
A virtual airline, AirGotland operates domestic routes in Sweden. Its Saab 340 is flown by SprintAir.

NyxAir
A Swedish charter airline. It has six Saab 340s which are used on public service flights and also on wet-lease to other airlines.

RAF-Avia
Based at Riga in Latvia, RAF-Avia is a cargo and logistics operator with two Saab 340s in its fleet. They can be seen all over Europe on charter work.

Sprint Air
The Polish carrier has two Saab 340s in passenger configuration which are often on lease to other airlines. One has recently been flying the Kärdla to Tallinn route in Estonia through private airline Diamond Sky.

 

Oceania & Pacific

Air Chathams
Air Chathams’ fleet includes three Saab 340s used on their island network.

Air Rarotonga
Uses two Saab 340B+ among other aircraft. It usually operates the type from Rarotonga in the Cook Islands to Auckland International in New Zealand.

Link Airways
Formerly known as Fly Corporate, Link Airways is a large Australian regional airline. It flies 11 Saab 340s on a widespread network. Codeshares with Virgin Australia makes their flights quite accessible.

REX Regional Express
Australia’s largest regional airline. It is based at Sydney airport, with outposts at most major airports around the country. It operates more than 50 Saab 340s (all variants), covering all three variants.

 

USA & Canada

Ameriflight
This large American cargo airline has operations across the United States, and a varied fleet of aircraft – among which are a growing number of Saab 340s. It has been procuring more examples as they are retired from other carriers.

Castle Aviation
The Ohio-based cargo airline has three Saab 340 freighters in its fleet, operating to various destinations in the US and Canada. One of their aircraft is flown for Purolator in that airline’s livery.

IBC Airways
An on-demand cargo airline which is based at Miami International Airport. It has a fleet of ten Saab 340 freighters, and operates on services to the Caribbean.

Legends Airways
A cargo airline which flies Saab 340s and other aircraft across the United States, Mexico and Caribbean.

Pacific Coastal Airlines
A commuter airline based in Vancouver. It has nine Saab 340s (a mixture of A, B and B+ models) operating to cities throughout British Columbia. Some are flown on behalf of WestJet Link.

Pascan Aviation
A regional airline based at Longueuil, Quebec in Canada. It flies scheduled services to remote destinations, as well as charters. Its six Saab 340Bs are in combi configuration.

Southern Airways Express
The large US-based commuter airline operates two Saab 340s on behalf of Mokulele Airlines.

Transwest Air
Based at Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, this airline uses three Saabs for scheduled services around the region.

Pascan aviation have 8 (B and B+).

None are in combi configuration. They are all 32 seat with the accro seats conversion.
