The days of classic European colour schemes live on in Lost Airline Colours of Europe, a new photographic history book title in the Timelines series from Destinworld Publishing.

Written by Matt Falcus, author of Airport Spotting Blog, it draws on a large collection of wonderful colour photographs of how airlines used to look, particularly from the 1960s to 90s.

As the name suggests, the book focuses on European airlines, including national carriers, leisure and low-cost airlines, regional airlines and cargo airlines.

Many of the airlines featured are now consigned to the history books, whilst others are still with us today but look very different. In some cases we even include a variety of former liveries worn by an airline.

Then there are the aircraft. Inevitably, when you’re looking at pictures from 20 to 50 years ago, the aircraft types will be very different. The book is full of old classics like the Boeing 707, Caravelle, Trident, early Airbus, and various propliner types. You just don’t see these flying any more.
