Lockheed L-188 Electra – Book Review

by admin

A new photographic book has just been published on the Lockheed L-188 Electra, by author Ron Mak.

The book is a photographic journey through the history of the early turboprop airliner which dates from the mid-1950s, and takes us right up to the present day.

It includes over 160 pictures, nearly all in colour, which are accompanied by informative captions. Among them are some real gems, showing the Electra in service around the world, even with some rare operators like Sterling of Denmark and Air Ceylon.

There are lots of pictures of the Electra flying in South America, where it flew until the 1990s.

The book also looks at the P-3 Orion, which was developed from the Electra, as well as current-day operations in Canada with Buffalo Airways.

For fans of classic propliners and the Electra, this is a fantastic book for your collection. It is mostly images, with little in the way of history or technical detail. So it’s more of a book to enjoy reliving memories through the wide array of images shown.
