Qatar Airways has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

This is the first Boeing narrowbody type that the airline has operated.

The aircraft, A7-BSC, is a MAX 8 variant and features 8 Business and 168 Economy seats.

This particular aircraft was originally destined for S7 Airlines, but has been reallocated following widespread cancellations of Western aircraft bound for Russian airlines. In fact, Qatar’s first nine 737 MAX aircraft will be similar reallocations and follow over the coming months.

Qatar’s previous 737 MAX order was for 25 of the larger -10 variant, which has yet to be certified. In addition, the airline has 50 Airbus A321neo aircraft on order.

The delivery flight saw the aircraft route from Paine Field in Everett, near Seattle to Keflavik in Iceland. It will then continue on non-stop to the airline’s home base of Doha in Qatar.

No routes have yet been announced by Qatar Airways for its 737 MAX aircraft, but they are expected to operate alongside the routes flown by its Airbus A320 family of aircraft.
