Lufthansa’s City Airlines to Launch Summer 2024

by Matt Falcus

Lufthansa’s new City Airlines subsidiary will launch in Summer 2024, providing a feeder network into Munich and Frankfurt airports.

The airline was founded last year and received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the German Federal Aviation Authority in June. It will operate its flights from the Munich and Frankfurt hubs and thus also offer feeder flights for Lufthansa.

The airline will launch by using Airbus A319 aircraft from Lufthansa’s existing fleet. These will feature the standard Lufthansa livery, with the addition of ‘City’ titles.

For future fleet requirements, Lufthansa Group is evaluating both the Airbus A220 and Embraer E2 aircraft variants.

At present no routes have been announced. City Airlines will not replace Lufthansa CityLine, but fly alongside as a separate entity.
