Dubai Air Show Orders Summary

by Matt Falcus

This year’s Dubai Air Show is now at an end, and it has been a significant event for many airlines and aircraft manufacturers.

With large orders expected from a number of major carriers, the eyes of the world’s aviation industry were on the event.

Over the course of five days, among the impressive aerial displays, ground displays and demonstrations of the latest technology and products, the following major orders were announced:

Airbus

  • airBaltic confirmed 30 firm A220-300 orders, plus 20 options.
  • Egyptair ordered 10 A350-900s.
  • Emirates added 15 more A350-900s to its orderbook.
  • Ethiopian Airlines added 11 more A350-900s to its orderbook.

ATR

  • Abelo leasing company ordered 10 ATR 72-600s, with 10 more options.

Boeing

  • Ethiopian Airlines ordered an impressive 11 787s (plus 15 options), and 20 737 MAX 8s (with 21 options).
  • SCAT Airlines ordered 7 737 MAXs.
  • Royal Air Maroc added 2 more 787-9s.
  • Royal Jordanian ordered 4 787-9s.
  • Flydubai ordered its first ever widebodies, with 30 787-9s ordered.
  • Emirates committed to 90 more 777-X, plus 5 more 787-9s.
  • SunExpress bolstered its future with 90 Boeing 737 MAXs ordered (45 firm, plus 45 options, including some MAX 10s).

Boeing were clearly the winners with the most aircraft (and order value), but there were significant moments for both manufacturers.

Sadly it was a quiet show for Embraer, with no orders.

The orders from Emirates and flydubai were also significant, and perfectly fitting for the show held in their home turf.

The show was seen as a success, and bolsters the future of the world’s biggest manufacturers and airlines.
